Plastic Repair System 2011 SL (PRS), leader and pioneer in repairing returnable transport packaging (ERT) made of plastic, has joined the European Lean & Green initiative, promoted in Spain by AECOC. The purpose of this program is to reduce its logistics emissions by 20% and promote its decarbonisation in a maximum period of 5 years. In this way, PRS becomes one of the 45 companies committed to the objectives of the program, among which are companies such as Campofrío, Chep, Correos, Damm, DHL, Europool System, Heineken, LPR, Mahou San Miguel, Okin or Volkswagen Group España Distribución, among others.
Lean and Green is the only environmental program nationwide that focuses on reducing emissions in the logistics phase of the supply chain. By joining the program, PRS is committed to developing an action plan to reduce its CO2 emissions in its logistics activities, the results of which will be audited by Ernst & Young. Among the actions that Lean & Green proposes in the action plan are initiatives such as route planning, centralization of logistics platforms or the purchase of electricity from renewable energies.
RECYCLING IS 187 TIMES MORE POLLUTANT THAN REPAIRING
PRS is a benchmark company in the Circular Economy that, thanks to its repair service, achieves the total recovery of the functionality of the repaired object, an economic saving of 70% for its customers, and a CO2 emission 182 times lower than that which is produces with the next best alternative to repair, which would consist of recycling and subsequent replacement of ERTs, such as pallets, containers, boxes, pallets, etc.
In 2019 alone, PRS repaired more than 100,000 packaging made of plastic, which has meant the reuse of more than 1,575 tons of plastic. By avoiding the disposal and replacement of these packaging, PRS has achieved a retention of more than 6,917 tons of CO2, which would have been emitted by other alternative solutions to repair, such as recycling, incineration, or burial.
